Most people like getting letters. What they don't like is reading the return address and getting scared at the thought of what that letter may portend.
To many people I'm sure it's the IRS.
For me, this is what gets me:
US Department of Justice
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives
OFFICIAL BUSINESS
I got one of these today. Fortunately it was only an invitation to a seminar.
Which return address gives you the willies even before opening the envelope?
I freaked out for a moment, but then I also saw "Office of Personnel Management," and remembered that one of my friends was applying for a government job and he had asked me to be a reference.
How about Blank Blank and Blank, Attorney's At Law. But it's not just the return address that's scary but the way it's sent. If it comes USPS I'm not so worried. But a few years ago I got a FedEx from my employer telling me they were closing my dept in 30 days. But I recovered. Things in the mail don't worry me too much. It's the car parked in front and the knock on the door that would scare the you-know-what outta me.
I hate going to work and seeing a strange guy standing outside the office. As you approach the door, he approaches you. He already knows your named, hands you a letter, and tells you that you have been served. Not that i've ever done anything wrong, but being a witness sucks.
It was fun at first until I realized how the recipient felt.
