China moves to make re-incarnation illegal
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle2194682.ece
I'm not saying I have plans to re-incarnate, but if I -do-, then apparently I need to fill out some sort of form.

“The so-called reincarnated living Buddha without government approval is illegal and invalid,” according to the order, which comes into effect on September 1.

Note: not political, just made me laugh, the concept of legislating the afterlife.

Well, I'm going on record then. I plan on coming back as a dog. My dog has such a nice life.

I just keep wondering about the kind of forms you'd have to fill out

I wonder what the penalty is. What about repeat offenders?

Well, apart from that whole "neutering" thing.

I wonder if they have a three strike rule.

So do the current living Buddhas get some kind of grandfather clause? Because that would be hardly fair for those who've already put so much effort into reincarnating...

Re: China moves to make re-incarnation illegal
Traditionally, the Dali Lama identifies the new incarnation of the Panchen Lama, and the Panchen Lama identifies the new incarnation of the Dalai Lama. Since the Dalai Lama is currently agitating for Tibetan independence/autonomy, the Chinese are trying to make sure that new Dalai Lama is a Chinese puppet. Simple, really.

Re: China moves to make re-incarnation illegal
To a Buddhist, reincarnation is like ordering a hot dog from a street vendor:
