(gas) Stove hum..
Background:
I have a fairly old Magic Chef gas stove/oven. Analog clock (doesn't work) with an analog timer and an oven light and electronic ignition (doesn't work). No pilot light. A thermocouple controls the oven ignition and lights the gas.
Historically, the seller had a 4-outlet extension plugged into a standard 15a recepticle, however, the 4-outlet extension has no ground plug, so the plug from the stove simply went to a cheater plug and into the extension.
I have removed the extension and now don't need the cheater plug, yet when I plug it into the 3-prong outlet, I can hear a feint hum/buzz. I didn't notice this before and I'm going to experiment with the cheater plug on and off tonight, but wondering what it could be?
A friend of mine mentioned that the clock might be run at a lower voltage and there might be a transformer in there somewhere to convert the 110v to a low(er) voltage. That might be humming.
With the stove, nothing should be using electricity with the light off, oven off, and stovetop off, other than the clock, which makes me think it is the clock or something related to the clock that is humming. As the clock doesn't work, I'm interested in opening the thing up and disconnecting the transformer or whatever is making that humming noise.
Do any of you electrically minded DIY hacks think this is reasonable? Transformer hum?
