How Long do You Bake Your Ribs?

So I've got a recipe that calls for a glaze and then to bake the spareribs in the oven at 350 for one hour. That doesn't seem long enough to me, is it? There's no pre-boiling either.

Re: How Long do You Bake Your Ribs?

I just oven baked some boneless country style pork ribs last week & cooked them at 350 for about 2 hours. They were done.... : )
I prefer the slow cooker method on low for 5 hrs....but didn't have 5 hours to wait.

A simple recipe I came up w/ (w/ ideas from allrecipes.com)

Some ketchup.
Some Sweet Baby Rays BBQ (or whatever)
Sweet Chili sauce (that asian stuff. mmm good)
Oregano (yes. it sounds weird....but was good)
Salt / Pepper

Gimme da cashhh!!

Re: How Long do You Bake Your Ribs?

This recipe has a glaze which consists of:
1/4 cup canola oil
1/4 cup diced onion
2 tblsp minced fresh ginger
1 tsp minced garlic
2 tblsp grated orange zest
1 cup OJ
1/2 unsulphured molasses
1/4 pure maple syrup
3 tblsp ketchup
2 tblsp honey

It's a very tasty glaze, but the recipe says one hour at 350 and I agree with you that that's not enough.

Mmmmm .... raw pork.

"Did you know that more people are murdered at 92 degrees Fahrenheit than any other temperature? I read an article once. Lower temperatures, people are easy-going, over 92 and it's too hot to move, but just 92, people get irritable."

Re: How Long do You Bake Your Ribs?

I bake anywhere from 3 hours depending on the ribs at around 300 covered and I baste ever 20 minutes.

Don't ever pre boil them, all that does is remove a ton of flavor from the meat.

Re: How Long do You Bake Your Ribs?

My G/F has a Xmas and July 4 party every year and the ribs are a highlight to everyone.

I dont eat pork, but these beef ribs are to die for.

For Beef:
In the crock pot: first put a dry rub on the beef ribs & put them in large plastic bags overnight to marinate. In the AM, put them in the broiler for about 8 minutes; turn them over & broil for another 8 minutes. Place the beef ribs in the crock pot and pour the BBQ sauce (usually 1 container) over the ribs. 6 hours on high, 8 on low. Also put onions in the bottom of the crock pot, since youre not supposed to use the crock pot for meat unless there is a layer of vegetable underneath
(You can easily get distracted hosting, and Ive had these devoured before getting any a couple times. Now I take some out and put them aside before putting these out since they can disappear so quickly)

For Pork:
Use a dry rub like the beef ribs and put in baggies overnight in the fridge. In the AM, BBQ for 8 minutes per side just like the beef ribs. Prepare the "package" to put them in: A large sheet of aluminum foil, covered with stretch tite plastic wrap (you might need 2 sheets of the plastic wrap to cover the aluminum foil. Place some BBQ sauce down the middle of the sheet and spread out so that the ribs cover the sauce. Place a rib on the sauce & spread more BBQ sauce over the top of the ribs. Enclose with plastic wrap - make sure there are no air bubbles. Enclose in the aluminum foil - wrapping tightly. Bake at 350 for 2 hrs

Let stand (still wrapped) for about 1/2 hr before opening

As for prebroiling, my G/F agrees with Emerill, prebroiling locks in the flavor and moisture (most important) there's nothing so bad as dry/tough ribs, the char broiling adds flavor. Emerill also thinks it helps get rid of some fat before the slowcook. I belive it was from watching him that she began prebroiling.

3 hours at 300 degrees in an oven baggie, then 5 minutes on a grill or under the broiler.
