My electric bill is wayyyy low..
Rather than corrupt the electric bill high thread, I got myself to wonder if I'm really unusual or what...
My electric bill for my house is usually around $15 per month. Is that really odd? I would spontaneously combust if I ever got a bill that was for $350 or anywhere in the range of $100+ per month like in dave_brogli's thread.
I dunno, I have gas appliances (stove, heat, dryer)
and I'm fairly conscientious about turning things off after use but my electric bill is always very low.
Of course, my gas bill is pretty low too, during the summer months I have had gas bills of around $15-$20 dollars and now with my wood stove, I hope to really reduce the need for my gas boiler for heat. I gather most of my gas is for my domestic hot water.
My quarterly water bill is around $33...

Re: My electric bill is wayyyy low..
Something is definitely not right...your refrigerator alone would cost at least $15 per month.

Re: My electric bill is wayyyy low..
It seems like the electric utility would charge a higher minimum rate than that just for servicing your account. We had to have a temporary meter installed when our house was being built and the only electricity used was for power tools used by the contractors and our bill was in the $40 range.
It sounds like you got a good thing going there, don't inquire too much about it to the wrong people or they are liable to "correct" their mistake.

Re: My electric bill is wayyyy low..
Since this is the Home Theater Forum, I would assume that you have some kind of decent display device. Even a 27" CRT-based set, in combination with a decent audio setup and DVD player, would seem to exceed that amount. Have you replaced all the incadescent light bulbs in your house with flourescent and/or high-powered LED equivalents? That, along with all-gas appliances would get you into the $45 range for a house that size ...

Re: My electric bill is wayyyy low..
The home depot near me is selling CFL lights for a pack of 6 14Watt (60watt equivalent) lights for $7 that I was going to pick up but not yet. I do have twin 4' flourescent tube fixture in the kitchen and a smaller flourescent tube fixture in the bathroom but I am going to replace that with some incandescent fixture that I just bought. I had to replace the ballast in the kitchen unit but it buzzes and now fails to fire up completely so I've ditched it and going incandescent but I'll use the CFL bulbs.
As far as my HT, I have a 32" LCD (Sharp) as well as 2 amps (a 2 channel Bryston and a 3 channel Anthem) and a powered subwoofer, as well as an Outlaw integrated preamp/tuner... However, lately I've been too busy to really use it, other than borrowing King Kong recently from my library (the Peter Jackson one).
Jay
P.S. there are no plans to investigate this anomaly! But I really wish my electric company (town municipal) would implement an online bill pay thing. I hate writing checks... especially for such puny amts. I am pretty sure I can overpay the acct and then get a credit to my account but why put money where it's not working for ya...

Re: My electric bill is wayyyy low..
Take that magnet off the top of your meter and report back in a month

That is quite strange. You say you don't use them that often, at least as of late. How often on average "non-busy" times do you use your system, how loud to you go? I live in a two bedroom apartment and my electric is higher than yours even during spring or fall when heating and cooling appliances are rarely used. You don't live in Mexico, do you?

Sure sounds like there's an electricity bypass in that house Jay.
