MySpace
So I just read an article that quoted a survey that said that MySpace is the hottest site on the web right now - past Google and Yahoo even. (The article is here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...Story/Business if you are interested in reading more.) I think that's amazing, I was really surprised. I think social networking sites rock, anyway - but I never would have expected that one would blow up that big. But, I do like it - it's let me get back in touch with some people I thought I'd never talk to again, so thumbs up there. I also like that the site is actively trying to change the perception that it's crawling with internet predators, i know that it teamed up with NCMEC to do online safety awareness ads, and recently made it, so when you report inappropriate content to MySpace, you can also report it to the Cybertipline hotline. I think that'll be very convenient for helping to bust some of the pervs around there, which will be good for everybody.
Anyway, time to fess up, who here's on MySpace? Or any of those other sites like it?

Re: MySpace
I was going to set up an page just to blog on. But I've found I can be even MORE intrusive to people I don't know by basically blogging in forum threads around the interenet.
This post is invisible! It also has the power to kill threads!

Re: MySpace
No page yet, but I just might. This thing has evolved beyond the high-school and even college crowd into my sphere...

Re: MySpace
When I'm not here I'm there. The site rules! I always know when/where something is going on. From a close friend's party to an underground punk gig. It's great for band networking too. And as Abby mentioned, just keeping in touch with distant friends.

Re: MySpace
I'm a member of Facebook (high school and college networking), Friendster, and MySpace. I rarely sign on to MySpace because the look of most of the pages I go to kills my eyes. Mainly, it's the background blending in with everything else, which is a really bad idea. The look of Facebook is SO much easier on the eyes, so I go there at least a few times a week. Friendster is in the middle of the road in terms of looks, and looks like it's no competitor to MySpace. If MySpace could clean up its look, I wouldn't mind frequenting it.
The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Re: MySpace
I am hopelessly addicted to Myspace!
Log on more than 10 times a day.
I know...I'm sad.

Re: MySpace
I go through little phases of MySpace addiction. Sometimes I am on there constantly, and then I go through weeks where I don't log on.
I agree with the rest of you that said it's great for finding old friends. Most of my friends from high school scattered after graduation. With MySpace I have been able to talk to people I lost touch with a decade ago. See my signature below for a link to my page.

Re: MySpace
I don't get it. I have a very bare-bone page on a similar, admitedly inferior site, and it's helped reconnect with a lot of old friends. I've certainly spent a couple of hours on there browsing contacts of contacts of contacts. But nothing to the level you guys are suggesting (addictive?!).
So, those who spend a lot of time on MySpace, what exactly do you do?

I know! What's up with that? Most pages take forever to load, there's too much music and video playing at once and it's impossible to even read the page with all that animation going on. Most of the time, I'm just lucky that the page doesn't crash my browser.

That's been my experience as well. Beyond the multimedia features, I don't think it's any different from livejournal.
