Can your allergies disappear?

I'm usually allergic to most cats. I just moved into a new place and one of my roommates has 2 of them. My allergies seeem to go on & off.

For example, right now both have been sitting down at my feet for over an hour and I haven't sneezed or had a runny nose once. Other times though, I'll wake up at 4am and start sneezing like crazy, go through about 4 tissues, and go back to sleep.

I have lived with my uncle before, with cat, and after several months my allergies just seemed to go away. Is this just something the body gets used to or is it on a case by case basis?

On another note, should I just break down and see an ENT specialist? Thanks for any help.

I've had a mild allergy to cats all my life, and my fiancee has 2. I've lived with them for years. Sometimes are better than others.

I would regular check and replace the filter in your air handling unit for starters (assuming you have forced air).

Also, I seem to have more problems when I touch the cats, and then absently touch my nose or eyes sometime after. Seems like a no-brainer, but I catch myself doing it a lot.

An Allergist might be a better choice than an ENT.

Yeah..where they stick u with everything, label them and look and see which ones react. Barbaric yes, but it works.
On the other hand though, some usually "outgrow" their allergies but what ur describing is actually one kind of treatment....desensitising. Little bits of exposure each time and ur mast cells get used to it and in time ignore the insult altogether. But there r also allergies that would come on later in life. We always say that its like a glass of water, exposure fills the glass each time and eventually it overflows and BAM! Wheals, itching and scratching all over!
