Questions about these things pop up all over the forum, so I am trying here.

I was thinking about one of these for travelling, which I have been doing a lot of. Looks like the Archos 420 is a good model, but I get the impression that these units must record video, like a PVR does, not that I can encode files and transfer them to the unit via USB 2.0 or firewire. Am I mistaken?

I guess what I should add is that I want to encode files from Premiere and transfer them to the unit to watch later. Would the Lyra be a better choice?

I have a 420 and I absolutely love this little beast. Yes, you can encode a video and drop the file onto the 420. I've been using the XVID codec and it works great.

There is nothing better for travel than having a thousand+ MP3's, a couple of movies, and 4 or 5 eps of Family Guy. All in a small package slightly larger than a Zen Xtra.

I like the sound of it. Is that a codec that will plug into premiere?

I'm not sure. I've not used premier in a very long time. They might be able to tell you on the DIVX boards.
