Man...it was like a warzone out there. This guy apparently took out a lightpost, and his wheel was torn off. He crashed into a couple cars in the neighborhood before driving into the driveway, hitting all four of our cars. One was a classic 71 Karman Ghia...which cannot be repaired.

There's blood all over the driveway, and apparently the driver was a neighbor a couple doors down. We dont know if he survived yet.

Man oh man. Not only that, he took out three other cars on the way to our driveway...and heres the unbelievable part: my friends and I were playing Halo 2, and the HT sound was up pretty loud. We didnt even hear the wreck.

Insurance will likely cover everything, but Im just damn upset about the Karman Ghia...that baby was with me through high school, and ran like a dream. Sigh...

Bastard drunk drivers.

Wow, that really sucks. I hope you have comprehensive insurance coverage because if he hit that many cars I'd say there's a decent chance that his liability insurance is going to be maxed out.

I was wondering the same. How did you explain to the cops not hearing that big of a wreck?

Well, they really didnt ask, which is good because I pretty much couldnt explain how I didnt hear all that. How on EARTH could I not hear that accident? Strange.

I also found out my friend is not a good photographer.

Sucks. At least it seems he/she was the only one hurt!

Question about your Ghia. Did you have coverage on it?

The actual impact of two cars isn't really that loud when you think about it... it's usually the skidding of the tires before the impact that cause people to listen for the crash... and it doesn't sound like this guy was hitting the brakes.

Bummer... sorry to hear about the Karmann Ghia. It's funny, I was just shopping online yesterday for one as a mid-life-crisis mobile.

That depends on the severity of the wreck, back when I lived in the city there was a wreck between a 1976/77 Van and an 80's Firebird at the intersection just outside that shook the entire house and knocked pictures off the wall. The sound was (seemingly anyway) louder than most thunder I have heard, the Van wound up on top of the Firechicken killing that driver and breaking the neck of the Van driver (she wasn't dead when they took her away) and actually tearing up a good chunk of pavement underneath it all, I'll never forget that sound....crunching metal, breaking glass, tires exploding....wow.
