austin healey as my next car?

i was thinking of getting a "new" car and really like the clean lines of the 1960's austin healeys.

any fellow htf'ers have any opinions/experiences with this car?

thanks,

Are you talking about the big Healeys or the little (Sprite) Healeys?
Are you interested in concourse, or just a good driver?
A new plastic-insulated wiring harness with real crimped connectors will drop you out of concourse judging, but will make for a fairly reliable car. I drove my 1959 Bugeye for a decade without any electrical problems this way.

Join the club FIRST before shopping for a car. All the good cars are sold member-to-member. Healey people dont' want to see their "baby" go to some speculator. www.healey.org/index.shtml It's a great club with a lot of elan and a very good monthly magazine.

That's sure not a vehicle I'd want as a daily commuter. I've owned pre 60 British cars and they're a lot of fun to drive but you also have to be prepared to do a lot of maintenance and repairs. Nice to have a drip pan in your garage or driveway too.

thanks for all the feedback i really do appreciate it.

i do want something unique, i'm just not impressed with what im seeing in the showrooms these days. i've really just started to look into this so im still doing my research.

another option would be to get a 'kit car' so i might look more into that.

First place I'd look would be your state motor vehicle department to find out what's involved with even getting it registered. Second stop would be my insurance company....coverage for physical damage may not even be available (at anything close to a reasonable cost anyway)

Mort (who suspects that NeerajC might have some sadistic and/or masochistic tendencies )

Then you should consider a Cobra.

I would look no more.

Good luck,

Custom chopper perhaps? They cost even more and break-down twice as much! Such a deal!
