Mary Kay LeTourneau...disgusting...
I am getting very tired of seeing Mary Kay LeTorneau and her fiance/former student Villi all over the tv and promoting their upcoming wedding. My wife said they were on CBS This Morning. It was a horrible thing she did and for her to keep getting put in the limelight and not be slammed is ridiculous.
The one thing I always tell people when they ask why even after her prison time do I think she should shunned? Just reverse the situation and say it was a 34 year old man and a 12 year old girl. People's attitudes usually change.
end rant.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

I agree.
The media is now trying to turn this into some fairy tale romance. And you're correct...if you reversed the situation...how "romantic" would it be then.
Then in the same breath, they'll have a segment about "Why the sudden outbreak in female teachers having sex with young male students?"
Just ridiculous.

I don't think it is happening more. I think it is not being covered up as much. And if it is happening more. I think it is related to how society reacts to it..see above.
Also, I think the best way to stop it is to make mandatory sentences of 10 years if convicted. What is it now...3 months or probation.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Yeah, it just seems that there's no shame in anything anymore.
They get tons of TV coverage, and are turned into some sort of minor celeb.

For many thousands of years, all over the Earth, cultures have had couples pairing off at ages you are not used to and apparently don't sanction.

Eh, this kind of logic doesn't work for me.
For many thousands of years, all over the Earth, we did lots of stupid things....that doesn't mean they apply to the year 2005...in America.
This woman was a teacher to a young boy. Sure, everyone can fire off the "hey, I would have loved to bang my teacher" jokes, but the reality is...how would most people feel if their young son came to them and told them that a 30 something year old teacher had been having sex with them?
The media is glamorizing this crime..because it was a crime, make no mistake about it.
If a 35 year old male teacher was having sex with a 13 year old girl, this would be viewed entirely different.
