NASA photo composite: Earth at night

Here's an interesting composite photo, showing lights from the ground all over Earth at night.

It's really cool how you can see exactly where the Trans-Siberian railway is.

That's interesting. Especially how there are only like 3 white dots on the right side of Antarctica.

Dennis: Very cool. Thanks for sharing!

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

That is fabulous! I love NASA shots of Earth like this! This is destined for computer wallpaper (via "Tile" setting).

Thanks for the link/pic. (Note the few dots of light representing the Hawaiian Islands.)

Here's another nice pic .... of a beautiful spiral galaxy 70-Million light years from Earth! .........

------------

Below is the August 30, 1997, "Picture Of The Day" via NASA -- The United States at night. (Just about the time a huge wave of new titles arrived in stores on 08/22/1997, on this new-fangled Digital video format known as "DVD". You can even see all the Wal-Mart cash registers lighting up from all the new DVD sales!) ........

That NASA website is a gold mine of great images! ......

If I didn't know better, I'd swear these images were mere drawings. Amazing! .......

I enjoyed this part of the caption for the photo linked above. ......

>>> "With its abundance of liquid water, Earth supports a large variety of life forms, including potentially intelligent species such as dolphins and humans. Please enjoy your stay on Planet Earth." <<<

Well, at least we have the potential for intelligence. That ain't all bad I guess. (But take note how the
caption does make humans take a back seat to dolphins.) LOL!

I was first exposed to the picture of the earth at night while helping with graphics for a website. We built a flash movie intro that goes from day to night and zooms in on Africa. The site is for a great ministry called Circle of Light, which provides electricity to villages in rural Africa. You can check it out here.

I thought Texas had a horrific problem with light pollution at night. I will never move to the East Coast.
