I'm stuck at home today!

Last night I parked my car in the garage and hit the garage door remote to close the garage door, as it lowered itself down into closed position, I heard a loud snap but didn't pay much attention to it.

This morning I go to open the garage door and get some balky chain action, and appear watching some stressful chain/rod action, I think the spring finally broke on me. I can't open the garage door at all (by myself), so I'm stuck at home until the garage door fixit place shows up for repairs. I hope it's just the spring, but am prepared for the worst, I think.

Suck. My opener went out last week, but at least I could pull the release cable and get the door open. Just make a turkey sammich and watch Elf to make the best of it.

Oh no, you have an honest to goodness reason to not show up at work after a long weekend. What a terrible thing.

Yeah, that's the springs. Especially if you try to lift it by hand (manually) and discover the door now feels about 20x what it used to weigh. That's the broken springs

Luckily they are easy and quick to replace for a pro, so you should be good tomorrow. We had ours snap last year, once it was replaced we've had no troubles (except the opener just died on us this year of it's own accord. It never ends...)

I think I pulled not only a hamstring, but my forearm muscles trying to lift the garage up. I feel really useless right about now...

If yours has two, get them both done at the same time.

Another reason to ride a bike to work.. Can't get stuck in garage as I could always go out the front door.

But then again, my brother-in-law installs electric garage doors for a living. So we would just call him up for some new springs pronto.

Hope you at least enjoyed your day off!

You can always look on the bright side, if you took a sick day and got paid for it, at least you can deduct the cost of the repair from the sick time. If this happened on a non-working day, you'd be really off.

Well, $400 later, I can now open and close the f-in garage door! The repair guy said there was no way I could have manually opened the door given how much slack was in the drive chain.
