Gun Law Question

Does anyone know if the "assault weapons" gun ban is the law that banned pistol magazines higher than 10 rounds to the general public? Just curious because I read that this law is going to expire tomorrow.

Yes, Neil, starting Tuesday you will legally be able to purchase full-capacity magazines. The 10-rnd. restriction WAS part of the (now defunct) AWB.

I dont mean to everrun you thread neil, but I have a few questions about the gun ban. I have been looking into buying a bushmaster assault rifle but have waited to see what the ban produces. I have heard that you can now have collapsable stocks and larger magazines. Can we now have shorter barrels? Please help me get the facts straight.

I believe short barreled rifles and shotguns are regulated (de facto ban) under the National Firearms Act of 1934, not the soon-to-be-dead AWB. The question is, does it qualify as a SBR or something else?

Short-barreled Rifles (Defined Code of Federal Regulations, Title 27, Volume 1, Parts 1 to 199).

"The term "short-barreled rifle" means a rifle having one or more barrels less than sixteen inches in length and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches."

"There are 10 types of people in the world: those that understand binary, and those that have friends."

As long as your not in one of the 7 states that have their own State AWB than you can have a collapsible stock, flash surpressor and bayonet lug. You will also be able to buy new hi-cap mags. I live in NY so the ban stays here.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a Beretta 92 with 1 factory 15 round magazine and a Glock 19 with a couple of factory 10 round magazines. I have some aftermarket high capacity mags for both but I don't really like them...not very good quality.

If you want short barreled rifle. You should buy a lower reciever and register it as a short barreled rifle then buy a upper reciever with a barrel less than 16 inches. This is provied you live in a state that allows NFA weapons and that your chief law enforcement officer where you live will sign off on it.

I live in Texas so I dont belive there are any restrictions. I'm just planning on getting the 14 and a half inch barrel with the 1 1/2 inch mini-y comp. I wouldnt want to go any shorter, but I was just wondering if you could. The collapsable stop will be pretty cool though. is there a limit on how big the clip can get? I wont go over a 30 round.

Stick with the OEM mags. Aftermarket is mostly shit.
