anybody going to Normandy for D Day?

I got invited last Friday. I had to pay extra to get my passport in time. The people with which I am going didn't realize it was the D Day anniversary. They are staying at a friend's house in a tiny, not on the map town near Rouen. They're taking me because they can't speak French. I'm guessing that its going to be stupidly busy but I'm hoping the crowds will disssapate quickly after the sixth.

I'll be there in spirit - I'm hosting an M1 Garand shoot on 6 June.

If you didn't book your room in Normandy six months ago then you'd better go for the M1 shoot.

I think you're a little late in receiving news in Canada: D Day was sixty years ago.

We won, by the way.

Our sense of geography can be off too. Our current PM recently boasted at some event of Canada's participation in the Invasion of Norway

IIRC, the Germans occupied Norway (at least in part) during the early stages of WWII.

England invaded Norway (no doubt in part to make up for the Viking plundering of the Middle Ages) and I would imagine that Canada was involved. To be sure I can’t remember any specific Canadian units.

The Nazis invaded Norway early in 1940 and a traitorous Norwegian officer named "Quisling" became their puppet ruler, thereby giving a new word for "traitor". Quisling ran occupied Norway all during the war. After the liberation in May 1945, he died at the hands of his own people.

I'm sure the Canadians were there with the Brits when they tried to forstall the Nazi takeover of Norway. I'll have to check my sources later.
