chevy 2500hd gas mileage

I'm looking forward to getting my first truck here pretty soon and I have narrowed it down to either a chevy 1500 z-71 or the 2500hd. My parents believe that the 2500 gets just plain terrible gas milage with the 6.0L. Does anybody know exactly what I can expect to get from each of these models.

i assume the 1500 has the 5.3l engine and you said the 2500 has a 6.0l. obviously the bigger displacement=more gas used. only thing about the 1500 z71 is its 4wd which probably changes gas mileage.

the 6.0 will burn more gas

also, check chevrolet's site or a car site like edmunds.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential.

Have you considered the Duramax Turbo Diesel? Probably a little bit better fuel economy and still much power and probably more torque.

Those are some fine looking trucks.

Send a message via Yahoo to Kevin G.
I work a a Chevy dealer and my father-in-law just bought the 6.0l 2500HD
Great truck!!!!!/poor mileage. but, it's got everything you need, when you need it.
The service techs tell me there's nada they can do to bump up the economy either, you're kinda stuck.
flip side to the 5.3l... great motor, has more than enough punch for my 2000 2wh drive X-cab, the weight and mileage added to the 4wd should be nominal.

I just bought a Ford F-150 FX4(4WD) w/the 5.4L Triton V8 (I know its notthe same brand, but should give you a genreal idea). I have had it for maybe 3 weeks now and I average 12.5 city driving and 17.4 interstate. Once I hit 3000 miles I will get the oil changed and use a Durablend 5w20 weight oil. I expect to see a small increase in gas mileage then.

Good Luck! Its nice to own a big land hog

I've got an '01 ext. cab Silverado & a lead foot. It has
the 5.3 & I get about 17mpg on the highway (cruise about
80-85 or so). Dont know too much about city as I commute
95% of my driving.
I have done the obligitory bolt-on mods:
K&N cold air induction.
Mass-air sensor
Flowmaster
Hypertech

MORE than enough power.....

I love it!

4X4 would be nice, but I have absolutely no use for
it 99% of the time & I live in Texas...lol.
I laugh at htese guys cruising around town with their
jacked-up 4X4's.......looks cool, but.........

Just curious....why 4X4 or 6.0L?
Are you going to be towing anything?

I probably won't be towing a whole lot, I use it to haul my motorcycle and probably tow the cow trailer at the ranch. I like the looks of the 2500hd better and as far as I know all they come with is the 6.0. I dont think a diesel is in my price range.
