Monkey's control game with their brain waves

I saw this just now on MSNBC and thought it was pretty cool. So let's discuss, as said in the article if this were to evolve it could be a major thing especially with the paralyzed. Pretty neat stuff.

While there are obvious benefits, I find the potential uses of this technology to be nightmarish. Let's look at the progression:

Monkey moves objects with thought control (wired)
Monkey moves objects with thought control (wireless)
Humans move objects with mind control (wireless)
Computer is able to decode human thoughts
Computer is able to force human thoughts

I know it's a long way to the last step, but I would not want to live in a world where it is possible for someone, via a wireless computer device secretly implanted, to know what I'm thinking (or control it). It's really the last frontier of privacy.

i think the last one is a HUGE step. with all the others, you are using brain power to alter objects. the last one is using brain power against brain power. the 4th one doesnt really apply, but in that one, the computer is just observing, not altering anything. scary to even think about though, isnt it?

And then when I feel so stuffed I can't eat anymore, I just use the restroom! And then I CAN eat more!

The monkeys were unaffected by the surgery, Nicolelis said. But now they had tufts of wires protruding from their heads

Yeah, waking up with a head patched with cement, with tufts of wires sticking out, is a normal thing. It happens every day! No side effects here!

I think we have finally discovered what happened to Baghdad Bob.
