I think somebody goofed
I decided to tape Jake 2.0 when it was on yesterday afternoon. If it was going to be good, I wanted the pilot.
So, I put a new tape in. I always cut the commercials out too, as I have been doing that for well over a decade now.
At any rate, about 3/4's of the way through the show the commercial ended, and the show came on for just one second, but then it switched to some hard-core porn.
For a good twenty seconds these two - well, I won't go into that, but then the station logo came back on, and then the show. Of course, I missed something, I think.
I have a feeling there is going to be a job opening at that station today.
Anyway, I am wondering...
Can I call the station up and demand that they show the whole show again (and not just most of it)?
Can I hold the station hostage? (Just kidding)
Would the FCC like my tape?
And no, this was not on cable, but OTA.

Glenn, which station was this? Do they have a Web site? They might have more information on what happened.

Oh, I don't know. Sounds like you may have gotten more than you expected!

Yeah, I knew the cracks would be coming, but I really want to have some 'fun' with this.
The real problem is that I am sure that many, many kids saw this too. (Boy, did they get an eyefull!) Of course, any red-blooded American boy wouldn't say a word about it.
The station site says nothing about it. An apology would have been nice, and I am tempted to call them up, but I want to know what I can and shouldn't do first.

Are you absolutely sure it was the station that goofed, and not your tape and/or setup?

Poso-lutely, abso-tivly sure. It was a new tape and I don't have anything like that one! It was a XXX.
Nothing on their site, and I wonder if anything will ever show up. There is a remote possability that they don't even know about it, except for the person that was working there yesterday.
I'm debating if I should just go to the station with the tape, and ask that they show it again. This was on Sunday afternoon, and as I don't usually have it on at that time, it may not have been the first time that it has happened.

Gotcha! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a blip on your tape where somehow it was showing something you were taping over

Similar incidents have happened a couple of times on Brit TV. Two explanations have been given:
(a) In one case, it was something the bored broadcast engineers were watching and by mistake it got switched to being broadcast in lieu of the intended programme.
(b) In the other case, the signal to a small area of the country was deliberately jammed by a malicious pirate broadcaster. They interrupted 'Songs of Praise' (an early Sunday evening devotional programme watched by just about every God-fearing pensioner in the UK) with some hardcore gay porn.
On a slightly different note, I've taped late night (or rather, very early morning) programmes and found curious, almost subliminal messages flashed on the screen between programmes, at the end of adverts, etc. These are only easily seen by playing the video tape and using freeze frame. They chiefly consist of colour bar test displays with cryptic messages written across the bottom, such as 'complaint about stereo sound on the Frogmorton transmitter' or something similar. What are they? If they're messages to other engineers to check on something, why not just pick up the phone? Perhaps this only happens on Brit TV.

Andrew, I'm going with a. I know how it happened, but I don't think any station is allowed to broadcast that.
It will be funny if I take it there and they don't know anything about it.
Even funnier if they knew about it but wanted some proof. I just don't know what the feds would do - or could do, in a case like this.
