Anyone Know A Good 'Adult' Boombox?

I want a boombox for outside evening listening that doesn't look like a Romulan battle cruiser, ammo canister, or bazooka. It does not need 'mega bass', or the word
ka-boom on it.

I'm willing to spend up to 200 dollars for something that just sounds good. Spending less would be fine too. I just can't stomach the look of the current offerings, but maybe I've overlooked something.

Anyone with model #'s or brands I should check out? Thanks for any advice. BTW, it does not have to be stereo, just have good sound. Thanks

This is the closest thing I can find:

This is the Sony ZS-X3CP box which sells for about $130.00 at Best Buy.

I know the looks are a little "out there"; but this baby sounds terrific and can play MP3's.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

CD player with 10-second ESP2 antiskip buffer memory

Digital synthesized AM/FM stereo tuner with 30 station presets (10 AM, 20 FM)

CD-R/RW compatible CD player with MP3 decoder

4-line dot-matrix display for easy MP3 file/folder navigation

3 CD play modes (program, shuffle, repeat)

Liked the question (I'm in the same mode myself)

Loved Mike's answer tho.

(I've looked at that machine for (internal) use a few times, but its outrageously expensive)

For something like a boombox I actually LIKE the Romulan Battlecruiser/Bazooka look. They appeal to me the same way '59 Cadillac ElDorado convertibles do.
The more outrageous the better as far as I'm concerned, with lotsa flashing lights and weird protuberances.

That Sony is a nice piece, I've heard that model and it's quite nice. The styling is a bit reminiscent of certain parts of a 50's Playboy Playmate's anatomy though, especially the upward thrusting speakers.

If it had a name instead of just a model number I'd suggest "The Jayne Mansfield"

I almost bought one for my stall at work (I'm an auto mechanic) but thought the styling would possibly offend our service mgr, who is a female.

On a more serious note, a lot of those so called "executive" units would probably be considered "adult boomboxes" and might not be totally unsuitable for outdoor use. The regular boomboxes aren't weatherproof as a rule anyway.

I prefer not to push the subwoofers until they\'re properly run in.

I'm so glad I asked. If nothing else, this question has provided me with some good laughs.

James,

Maybe the designers/stylists at Sony heard wrong and came up with a Boobbox instead of a Boombox?
