Are you talking about the so-called "smart drugs" that made such a splash in this country a decade ago? I've spoken with people who have been on hydergine-based regimens and they swore by the stuff. If it were more readily available in this country I might be tempted. (The lucid-dreaming episodes mentioned by hydergine users is what piqued my interest.)

Also of interest: Hydergine was first synthesized by Dr. Albert Hofmann, who earlier had created another controversial ergot-based substance he later came to call his "problem child."

Nope, I can never remember to take them...

Seriously, you will always get a split response with this type of product. People will swear by them and some will claim snake oil until they're blue in the face. Personally I have a terrible time remembering things but I've taught myself to actively try to remind myself of something I know I'll have a hard time with. The more times you get reminded of something the better chance of your memory retaining it.

10 out of 10 scientists say no.

If they really worked, major drug companies would be selling them. Since they're classified as "herbal supplements", they do not need to be FDA approved in ordered to be sold in stores, so small unknown companies can get away with selling them.

Agreed. If there was real science then the big boys would be marketing it. Sorry no free lunch.

Holadem, it seems that my memory is similar to yours: good memory for trivia but forget someone's name as soon as they tell me it. Memory is like school work. Some people just have to work harder at it than others. Unfortunately I'm lazy too.

Anyway, what I do to make it easier for myself is take the brain out of the equation by forming habits. For instance, I try to park in the same row(s) at work, at the grocery store, arena, etc. I always put my car keys in the same place (on my dresser) when I get home so I always know where to find them.

In my line of work, I am constantly meeting new people and forgetting their names. Since I know that I'm bad at it, I try to practice remembering all the time. I repeat their names in my head and do word association. I even ask for business cards, not only for future reference, but because I know that if I see the name then I will have an easier time to remember it. A lot of men have strong visual memories.

Another tip regarding tasks is to schedule reminders in your email or voice mail. If you have Outlook then schedule an appointment so that you get a pop-up window that will remind you when something is due. Sometimes if I remember something during the weekend that I need to do at work then I leave a voice mail for myself. Otherwise I would just forget it again by the time Monday morning rolls around.

I disagree. When effective natural products are readily available then the drug companies are not as interested because they can't patent them and sell billions of dollars worth each year.

The drug companies will sponsor tests of natural products that are deliberately skewed to show them to be ineffective. For example: They will do a test on severe depression patients using St. John's Wort and find it to be ineffective even though virtually every one in the natural health field knows you only use St. John's Wort for mild depression. Then they minimize the other portion of the test revealing that the major anti-depressant drugs were also ineffective for severe depression.
