Drum Coprs Fans

I was just curious if there are any DCI fans lurking about in the forum?

I have always enjoyed watching the Championships on PBS and have been to a couple of shows, but have been out of it for a couple of years now and was wondering if it is still popular. I would also like to get some copies from past years, but they are so expensive.

Thought it might be nice to get a little discussion going here.

I like DCI as well. Tons of fun! Well I've never actually been a part of a drum corps, but I sure got into it during HS (I was heavily involved in marching band). A friend of mine was with the Blue Devils for some time, but he got out and decided to pursue a music degree instead.

I used to watch the championships on PBS every Thanksgiving but I haven't the last two years. I've got several years (around 95-97) recorded on VHS, but none since. Every once in a while they come out this way and I'll go see them.

Another fan here as well, although I don't get to catch it on tv as much as I'd like too. I wish now that I would have pursued joining one after high school. I don't know if I would have made it, but I guess I'll never know.

I hadn't thought about it in awhile until I heard that Blast! was coming nearby. Unfortunately, I had "previous engagements" (I forgot) and missed it.

Being a trumpet player (sop), my first love were the Blue Devils, but the next year I saw the Garfield Cadets (of Bergen county) perform their Copeland piece and became a big fan of theirs. I actually have 10 'most favorite' corps.

I was in the Dutch Boy corps(Kitchner, Ontario) before they folded.

Drum corps would be really good in 5.1 surround sound. I haven't seen a recent drum corps competition broadcast, but the ones I saw in the past were kind of lacking in sound quality.

Believe me, it's much better in 360.1 surround.

Ones that I recall being some of my faves:

Cadets / Blue Devils / Santa Clara Vanguard / Phantom Regiment / Madison Scouts / Cavaliers

Glad to see that there are some fans here!! I was never in Drum Corps myself, just high school marching band, but we were very serious. I was in the drum line and loved every minute of it.

My next door neighbors while I was in H.S. had their garage painted with a huge Cadets symbol. I was never a big Cadets fan, but I did always like the Cavaliers. One of the best performances I have ever seen was in 89 when Phantom Regiment did New World Symphony, but they lost to S.C. Vangaurd doing Phantom of the Opera.

I saw on the DCI tape that you can get the years on DVD now, but if I recall it was way to expensive.

Back in the early 90s I was a fan of Madison Scouts (our band's marching instructor was from there) and Star of Indiana (which is right down the road near Bloomington).

Every New Year's Day, one of our local stations runs the DCI International Championships so I usually tape that and watch it after the football is over.

One of these days I need to go see the broadway show "Blast!" which was created by Star of Indiana. Anyone seen it yet?

Mark, that's what I was referring ot in my first post. I missed out on it though (and it probably won't come back for awhile).
