Thanks for that clarification! It makes a lot more sense now. The only source I'd consider purchasing in the next five years which would even use HDMI for audio is a PS3 or Xbox360, neither of which apparently sends HD dolby or dts apparently. Yes multi channel PCM is supported on optical, I've been using it for years with my pitiful Sony receiver.
