Is My Onkyo '605 Set Up Properly?
Hi All!
I have a Panasonic 'BD10A Blu ray player going HDMI OUT for audio AND video (no other connections at all from this deck) to an Onkyo TX-605 receiver's HDMI IN (1)...from there, I have a second HDMI cable going from the 605's HDMI OUT to my Sony KDS-50A2020 HDTV's HDMI IN...that's it...no other connections are being made (except, of course, for my speaker cables coming from the 605 to feed my Polk bookshelf array)...
Is this the correct setup for passing all audio and video to my receiver and TV from the player? I have the HDMI MONITOR set to ON in the 605's setup menu and everything else is calibrated -- but should I be getting 1080p video from the player out to my TV through the receiver with this "HDMI loop" setup? Does the 605 pass 1080p straight over HDMI to a display with no degredation if it's HDMI IN, HDMI OUT?
I just read an article in the recent issue of Home Theater which compared a bunch of high level receivers and their video processing abilities....when they got to the Onkyo 805 I think it was, they mentioned something about an onscreen menu "taking away" resolution from the HDMI output for video, and they suggested leaving it off -- is this the same thing as my 605's "MONITOR OUT" selection? This article concerned me because it mentioned picture degredation -- even digitally over HDMI -- when this on screen menu was on...
I just want to make sure I have everything set up correctly to pass video from DVDs and Blu rays and audio from these discs BOTH over HDMI; I believe everything is set up correctly in the player, because when I play back DVDs with legacy Dolby and DTS tracks, the bitstreamed signals come into the 605 just fine, with "Dolby D" and "DTS" illuminating on the display...and the decoded TrueHD tracks from Blu rays come over as PCM signals to my 605 with "MULTICH" reading on the display...but I want to make sure VIDEO is being transferred through the receiver okay from the player to the display...
When I press my SXRD's DISPLAY button on the remote, the upper right hand corner DOES read "1080p" as the INCOMING resolution from the player, but does this necessarily mean I am SEEING 1080p?
If anyone can help with this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks Home Theater Forum friends!
