Make sure your "rears" are plugged into the side surrounds, not the rear surrounds. Is you sub plugged into the correct place (sub out, not analog in)?
Make sure the mic is on a tripod and not close to a wall. It should be in the 'sweet spot' for the first measurement. Only use the mic that came with your Onkyo.
Audyssey sets the distance and trims.. No need to do that first (they will be ignored). It also detects polarity is also checked, but it will not stop Audyssee (since some speakers are purposely reversed).
If you have anything running (fan on tv, AC, fridge) the mic will pick that up and may cause a problem.
And please, double check for crossed or frayed speaker wires.

What happens if you simply play a source tuner/cd/dvd/etc. without doing the calibration? WORKS FINE FOR HOURS AT A TIME WITH NO ISSUES BUT THE BALANCE CONTROLS DO NOT WORK AND THE REAR SPEAKERS ARE TOO SOFT AND SUB IS SILENT.
How far into the setup does it get? Right front, center, etc. SET UP SENDS TEST SIGNAL TO RIGHT FRONT, CENTER, LEFT FRONT, THEN GOES VERY SOFT TEST TONE TO RIGHT REAR THEN QUITS TO STANDBY MODE.
Have you double checked your speaker wires at both the 805 and the speaker? If even one strand is touching, the 805 could protecting itself from a short circuit. NOT REALLY BUT ALL SPEAKERS EXCEPT SUB PLAY OK WHEN CONNECTED TO CABLE BOX AND CD PLAYER. REAR CHANNELS ARE SAME SPEAKER SET AS FRONTS BUT THEY PUT OUT VERY FAINT SOUND COMPARED TO FRONT AND CENTER.
SO YOU SUSPECT THE SPEAKER WIRES ARE NOT SECURELY FASTENED?
THANKS!
