Slightly off-topic, but still relevant... AMC (American Movie Classics) just started an HD channel in our area. What a f---ing waste of bandwidth space! The other night they were showing "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" in a 4X3 panned-and-scanned master, stretched on the sides to fit the widescreen frame! I mean, for christ sake, if you're not going to air a true HD master, you can at least take a standard 16x9 transfer and upconvert to Hi-def. Even consumers now have DVD players that upconvert to HD.
