I disagree, you can have excellent results in a shared space with all in ceiling speakers. There are several very solid in ceiling speakers and many can be aimed are designed to fire at the listening area. Is it best case scenario, no, but if you want best case scenario build a dedicated room...
Klipsch, TruAudio, Polk, Preference, Sonance, HiFi Works, all make great speakers and have comprehensive lines from simple to THX and reference speakers.
