Re: My xa1 declared dead and unfixable by Toshiba.

I have an XA1, wonderful player. Sorry about your misfortune. I just recently jumped into a Samsung BD-UP5000. As far as playing HD DVDs on it, it's virtually transparent from the XA1 except handles the disk much faster. Ejects almost immediately. No problem with web updates, etc. Bonus, the PQ is even better.
Hopefully the audio codec problems will get fixed on the next firmware upgrade and then I could not want for another player.
I do not want to sell my XA1 until comfortable with the Sammy for obvious reasons. The 5000's have had their share of problems.
Plus, if I only had an XA1 and it crapped out, I would likely just pick up a <$100 A3, etc. but I would miss the analog outputs (which the 5000 does have).
Of course, none of these other players are like the 'classic' XA1. I will likely just keep it anyway, at this point.
