That is a surprise as I thought Toshiba had clearly indicated players would be supported for the normal period. I would settle for the $800 and either sell my HD DVD's or buy another player. The HD-XA2 is much better but not worth $800, I bought one refurbished for $300 and love it. You could also purchase any number of other less expensive players.

I probably don't have to tell you that accepting the $800 and selling the HD DVD's will give you a lot of money for something that will be supported going forward and is the obvious smart choice.
