I was surprised that Sayid turned on Michael so quickly. He had to realize that it was Michael who let them out when they were locked in with Minkowski. Shouldn't that have leant some credence to his warning not to trust the captain? Meanwhile, I thought that Desmond should have said something about Widmore.

Desmond did say something about Widmore. When Desmond and Sayid went into the captains cabin, and he showed them the black box, Desmond told the captain that he knew Widmore.

Here's something to chew on: We now know that the staging of the wreckage happened after the sky-turning-purple event (since Michael left the island right after that). We also know that at that moment, there was something detectable by the outside world (Penny's men in the cold). So Charles Widmore would have a reason to stage the crash at that point, assuming he was able to detect the island, and didn't want anyone interfering with its exploration/exploitation.

A couple of things here.. First we have to assume that the news report Michael saw was current and real. I think there is a great possibility that it was fed into his TV at that specific time, to convince him to start working for the others. The way it interrupted the show that was already on the TV seems to indicate that. Secondly, if it was infact a real current report, then that only proves that the wreckage was
discovered after the sky turned purple. It could have been actually staged before then.
Also the timeline isn't that great. It's only been 3 months since the plane crashed to the time Sayid was interrogating Michael on the boat, so there isn't much room to move there.
