A Blu-ray player will play DVDs, and Blu-ray discs, but NOT HD DVDs. In case you didnt know Blu-ray discs are also in HD, its just not called HD. They didnt want you to confuse it with HD DVD.
Buy a Blu-ray player, and you will have a beautiful picture. DO NOT buy a HD DVD player. That format died this month. Their will not be any more HD DVDs made after May. Of course its your money, but i would return that DVD player, and buy the Blu-ray since it does a fine job playing regular DVD.
