Yeah I'm not sure about defragging from a boot volume, and I've heard that the Coriolis program can be touchy and takes a very long time.

What I'm hoping for is that Carbon Copy Cloner, while it's copying all the files on my HD, isn't doing a low-level, block by block clone. If it's actually copying files, then hopefully the Mac OS/HFS+ combo which does a form of defragging on the fly will take over and the result will be a less fragmented clone of my HD. We'll see...
