In 1936, "My Man Godfrey" was up for Best Actor, Best Actresss, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director and Best Screenplay, yet failed to get a best Pic nom. (Must have been the Art Direction...) "Libeled Lady", on the other hand, from the same year, was nominated for Best Pic as its sole nomination.

So maybe all the cinematographers loved it but the actors and directors didn't.
