Thrilled with the
Juno nominations. I thought the screenplay would get nominated but I didn't think it had a prayer for Best Picture or Best Director. Thrilled with Ellen Page's Best Actress nominated for the same reason I'm thrilled with Reitman's nom. I'm happy for Johnny Depp's nod as Sweeney, but wouldn't be heartbroken if he didn't win it since it isn't the game changer that Jack Sparrow was. I'm surprised Saoirse Ronan got Supporting Actress nom since Keira Knightley got all of the buzz and Ronan's what 13? Brad Bird's screenplay nomination for
Ratatouille was also a surprise to me and virtually seals a win for Best Animated against Marjane Satrapi's foreign darling
Persepolis. I was hoping Bruno Delbonnel would get a cinematography nod for
Across the Universe but I haven't seen the actual nominees so I don't know what it was up against. A good year for Industrial Light & Magic with two F/X nods after years of suffering insurgents. The brilliant work of its people on the
Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy under severe budget constraints really opened the way for its return to greatness.

I haven't seen
Atonement yet so I can't comment on the validity of Wright's lack of nomination, but I think Reitman absolutely deserves to be there. Diablo Cody's screenplay was clever and well-structured but it would have been the easiest thing to since without exactly the right tone, music, casting and performances. It's a real high-wire act of a script and Reitman absolutely nailed it. He brought together and often brought something new out of the absolutely best cast that script could have possibly had.

Me too. No one seemed to like
Surf's Up and many, myself included, were surprised by how good
The Simpsons Movie proved to be.
