Re: I am looking for a DVD Recorder that upconverts
I am looking at the same recorders. I've done a bit of research and am leaning towards the Phillips hard disk/dvd recorder. It gets great reviews on the upconverting to 1080i. It also has a built in ASTC/QAM tuner. A few caveats, while it receives HD digital signals, it downconverts when you record, and upconverts the playback. Neither does it pass through the HiDef to the TV, due to copyright concerns. This is true of all the models. However, if you want to use it to record TV shows for playback, it is really convenient in that you don't need any media. The 160 GB hard drive can store quite a few hours of TV! You can also pause live TV, which is cool. There are some very informative reviews at newbie.org. The best price I've found is at CC, with free shipping.
Hope that helps. It would help to hear from those of you who are using any of these recorder
Check out the reviews at newbie.org, the forum would not let me put the links in this reply. The last two reviews were the most useful. Phillips DVDR3575H is the model.
