While I agree that porn was one of the driving forces behind the success of Videotape in the 1970s and 1980s (and probably also a factor in the rise of DVD although to a lesser degree) I don't see this model carrying over to the same extent with HD media acceptance.
There is another game in town that wasn't fully established back then:
Internet Porn. Yes, people who want to avoid bumping into Pee Wee Herman might embrace HD Porn to some degree (the mind boggles at what High Definition might add to the visuals
) However, I really don't think that the genre will be as important as it was the last time around because of alternatives.
In other words, it's not your father's (unwashed) Oldsmobile.
