It's happened a few times in Japan, I think - the same guy played Zatoichi for decades before Takeshi Kitano's version. And there were an awful lot of people who felt Basil Rathbone was Sherlock Holmes, full-stop, before Jeremy Brett took the role.

Where's Ultraman fit? I saw the latest movie a couple weeks ago and it works in stuff from forty years ago (with the original actors, no less). I don't think it's had the ten-year hiatus Doctor Who did, although I think there were some soft reboots and attempted restarts in it.

(And then there's Godzilla, continually in production for almost fifty years but gleefully throwing everything aside from the original film out with each new sequel)

Jay's Movie Blog - A movie-viewing diary.
Transplanted Life: Sci-fi soap opera about a man placed in a new body, updated two or three times a week.
Trading Post Inn - Another gender-bending soap, with different collaborators writing different points of view.

"What? Since when was this an energy ball movie?" - Overheard during a screening of Takashi Miike's Dead Or Alive
"What the hell religion are you people?" - Overheard during the Captain Marvel serial at SF/29
"If I feel even one bullet hit me, I will rip your lungs out through your nostrils!" - Ron Silver as himself, "Heat Vision And Jack"
