I don't think there will be even any such attempt to explain away any continuity issues. As a matter of fact, if given the choice of them either A) just ignoring any continuity issues and starting the story as they see fit or B) finding some ultimately silly fan fiction-worthy plot device by which to devise some alternate timeline to explain any continuity lapses, I'd much rather them go with A.
