Now that I've dug into the archives, I see that I was confused anyway. Jerry did record "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" some 15 years earlier at 706 Union in Memphis....but I was thinking of the session from the winter of 56-57 (you know, half a century ago) that produced "The Crawdad Song".
Sam Phillips usually ran a tight ship, the main excepton was Howlin' Wolf, Chester got to drink when he wanted.
Anyway, Jerry and the boys were drinking and roarin' pretty good when they laid down Crawdad Song. You can hear it on the record.
