In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Bunuel made the greatest last film ever

I would almost agree with you Mario and IIRC said the same when I wrote about it after originally seeing Obscure Object. The only one I know of that I would place above it is Murnau's
Tabu, but of course that is not a "final film" in the same sense. Obscure Object has the sense of a groundbreaking artist making his last statements on film, while Murnau would have continued making films had his life not been cut tragically short.
I was pleased to read your thoughts too, Michael. Object being my favorite Bunuel film as well. And of course I love Ikiru for some of the reasons Mario backs away from it a bit. I identify heavily with a career of pushing around large stacks of paper. Scenes like Shimura softly crying as the camera pans up to his "25 Years of Service" award are just shattering. And for my money, Kurosawa's montage that shows how Watanabe became estranged from his son produces an even stronger effect than the much lauded "dissolution of Kane's marriage" one from Citizen Kane.
RE: Pride & Prejudice
Guess I need to read closer. I saw the title and assumed you were talking about the latest one. Didn't even realize there was an Olivier version. I have the new version high in my Netflix queue but it is currently a "very long wait".
RE: George "Deleted"
I'll just imagine what you said George.
