May I also add, nice review!
I bought The Deer Hunter because, well,
it belongs in any Collector's collection.
However, I'll admit I never really liked this
film. The first half of the movie is tediously
long, and if one can sit through it, the second
half fares far better. I never thought much of
the Vietnam sequences either. As you mentioned,
there are better Vietnam movies out there.
Still, the cast is top-notch and overall it's
just one of those films you have to own.
