I think a child could see that something is happening, and it's much more clear and certain than it was twenty or even ten years ago. One of the more disturbing reports I have heard involves an increase in the annual runoff from Siberia, which is freshening the Polar Sea; the best models suggests that below a critical level of salinity an Ice Age will occur, and that such condition requires not aeons but mere years to become established.
I guess it serves us right for being early adopters of an interglacial climate; we had no right to expect that we would be able to use our current civilisation forever.
[Mind you, I admit to looking for any excuse to dig a Trans-Siberian Canal for draining the Ob and Irtysh into the Black Sea by way of the Aral and the Caspian, and to stop the burning of coal; but I like to think I'm more objetive than the average alarmist.]
