You want the front portion around the screen as dark as you can get it. I would make the front wall, and the adjacent floors/walls/ceiling black, or a very dark, flat color.
You could lay down some sort of dark area rug in front of the screen area if you want, which is you have hardwood, floors or such may also help with the acoustics.
