The resolution is pretty much limited just by the card's avaliable memory (from what I understand). Most (if not all) modern cards should do high resolutions fine. One thing I do find though is that Windows doesn't usually allow very high resolutions. In Windows I'm limited to 1600x1200, while in Linux I can REALLY crank it up nicely.
