Anyone else have comments on this issue?

It's been discussed to death. In theory, the progressive scan player will do a better job, because the line-doubling and 3-2 pulldown detection will occur entirely in the digital realm with no intermediate analog conversions. But if you have the hardware, you can always try it both ways and see which you prefer.

TV's have superior line-doubling and 3:2 pulldown technology

Blanket statements like this don't mean anything. TVs have differing capabilities and levels of quality, and so do DVD players. A high-end HDTV may do a better job than a cheap p/s player, but lose out to a a top-of-the-line model.
