I made some comparaisons between the 1.66 aspect ratio on the dvd and the new 1.78 ratio on the BD    
1.66 was a very popular aspect ratio in France. A lot of filmalkers here in france chose this format during the 70-80 (Claude Sautet, Yves Robert, Philippe de broca). Rare were the films in France shot with the 1.85 aspect ratio...

it was shot like a movie, with 1.85 soft matte. both for a 1.33 composition and a 1.85 composition. I prefer the 1.85 aspect ratio but both are legimate since it was broadcasted in 1.33 in the first place.
