a new award shouldn't be introduced - at least not in any main category. a nice "hey good job" trophy, maybe, but no "best supporting digital character". too much is split between the tech aspects and the actual acting aspects. :\
those are obviously two different people. my vote goes to smeagol as best supporting actor - serkis pales in comparison.
