I confirmed it as well...it looks like the PS3 is doing the encoding on the fly and converting to DTS.

I have a 1 week old PS3 with the 1.90 update, I've played about 4 or 5 SD-DVD discs with no issue....check the settings for DVD upscale on the player to see if there's something you might need to change.
