Hum usually is caused by improper grounding. I'd start there next.
Setting the levels at any output should work, while setting it at the level you are going to listen at, is the most accurate.

Ersan: I would send an email to pioneer and ask them which units have a switichable input power setting. I could be wrong, but I thought almost all did. Being cheaper to make them this way than to make 2 kinds.
Thanks. My surrounds for 5.1 are curently located at about the 110 degrees location, using Dolby's orientation method. And according to their website, I may be able to keep them there, but I will probably have to move them forward...
