The Oppo is nice... I think it has way more analog level controls than the Pioneer does, not to mention the DVDO chips in it are exceptional.  I'm pretty sure what you are getting from the S/PDIF output is just...

Hi, just ran across this thread... I've got a DSPA1 and am using a BDP-05FD and running both the S/PDIF (HDMI into the DVDO and then S/PDIF out from the DVDO) and the Analog out into my DSPA1 (for the new codecs).  Works...
