Ian McDiarmid deserves a Best Supporting Actor Award.

His character and Anakin are the only ones (forgetting the androids) who span all of the saga. But he is the only one who played all *his* (disregarding an image + voice on a communication screen).
He's in SW-I, SW-II, SW-III and SW-VI (spans more than 20 real years).

Best Actor (Ewan McGregor)
I finally got around to watching Shallow Grave this weekend and loved every bit of it! Very smart, fun thriller. I think it was Ewan McGregor's first featured role and he was brilliant. I'm fairly certain this was also the first feature film by Danny Boyle (some of my favorites of his: Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, 28 Days Latter, Millions).

Got drunk, danced till 2 am and then crashed. We went with 3 other couples so it was a hoot. I haven't had that much fun in a long time. Even got to see some T&A thanks to the drunk neighbors we went with.

Nothing that exciting this weekend for me, Ron. But haven't you pretty much described every single night at Chez Christou?

Elijah, sounds like quite the leap you're considering! So the rest of the fam is cool with moving there? Tough to beat the weather, that's one thing in favor of moving there. Sounds exciting, though, if you get the chance to do it.

He was the best thing about it Cees, from a goatee-stroker's point of view he makes the whole thing almost watchable, oooh that was awful, I'd just hate to be a goatee-stroking snoot, sneering at every spectacular, perfectly enjoyable, effects-driven, populist movie that comes along, brrr.

Great little film, haven't seen it in a while though, I think I'll do a Danny Boyle double bill one of these days, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting. 28 Days Later was one of the best British horror flicks of recent years and the best and only zombie film not to actually feature any zombies.

I agree, other than the Spielbergesque ending, 28 Days Latter was brilliant! My other favorite "zombie film" is another recent UK export, Shaun of the Dead.

It is one of the most cleverly humorous films I've seen in ages. The more times I've seen it, the more I like it... and the sound track is great fun as well!

My other recent favorite UK export is the ingeniously entertaining film, Layer Cake featuring Daniel Craig, the new "Blonde Bond".

I believe this is the first time Matthew Vaughn was at the helm of a film, but he has some worthy credentials as producer of many excellent films including two of Guy Ritchie's best works; Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch.

Yeah Shaun of the Dead was great fun, a fittingly gory tribute to George Romero. Talking of the recent wave of Brit flicks lets not forget Sexy Beast which had a blistering performance by Ben Kingsley playing a dangerously unstable Cockney gangster, who would have thought Gandhi could be so scary!

Which reminds me, I posted a spoof commentary of Sexy Beast years ago on the forum, here's a reprint. British actor Ray Winstone is the star of the film.

BEN KINGSLEY: Hello I’m Ben Kingsley and you’re watching Sexy Beast, a very different kind of gangster movie.
In this scene out in the mediterranean sunshine, I’m telling Ray Winstone he has to come back to England for a heist.

RAY WINSTONE: This is where we see how barmy your character is, innit Ben?

BEN KINGSLEY: Yes and I saw this as an opportunity to challenge public perceptions of me as an actor, I’ve been associated with just one role for a very long time.

RAY WINSTONE: No more passive resistance eh Gandhi?

BEN KINGSLEY: Thank you Raymond. Very droll.

RAY WINSTONE: Shooting this scene was the fucking highlight for me. Getting to go head to head with an actor of your stature, Ben. You truly are the fucking daddy of great actors!

BEN KINGSLEY: Ha ha. Charming.... what I found particularly challenging was playing a character that was so obviously beneath me. What impressed me about you Ray is how utterly you came to inhabit your character. Even between takes you presented yourself as a working class lout, and I couldn’t tell where you ended and the character began.

RAY WINSTONE: You fucking what?

BEN KINGSLEY: You see thats it. That tough aggresive tone, that posture, even now you can just switch back into it, its amazing!

RAY WINSTONE: What the fuck are you talking about Kingsley?

BEN KINGSLEY: Your act ... you know ...playing an unpleasant degenerate... ooh I like this scene coming up.

RAY WINSTONE: Those are my fucking Hackney roots you’re talking about there Gandhi, you wanna fuckin’ watch yourself boy.

BEN KINGSLEY: Ah well, I did think it was odd that you seemed to play such similar characters in all your movies.

RAY WINSTONE: Shut it Mahatma!

BEN KINGSLEY: Don’t push me Winstone or I’ll take that bottle of Holsten Pils and show you who really is The Daddy!

RAY WINSTONE: You and whose fuckin’ army skinny boy? You don’t wanna mess ...oh fuck forget it. I can’t fight bleedin’ Gandhi!

BEN KINGSLEY: I am NOT Gandhi!!

RAY WINSTONE: Yeah yeah. Look lets put all this behind us alright Ben?

BEN KINGSLEY: Fine, just don’t mention that bloody movie again.

RAY WINSTONE: Ok deal. So fancy going for an Indian later?

BEN KINGSLEY: Right Winstone, that does it........

RAY WINSTONE: Only messing with ya Ben, now where’s Mahatma coat my scarf?

BEN KINGSLEY: You shit!

I'll second your recommendation for Sexy Beast. Every performance in that film was electric! Ian McShane (Deadwood) was especially creepy as Teddy, the quintessential mob boss with some freaky perversions.

I have not seen Jonathan Glazer's follow-up film, Birth with Nicole Kidman, but I remember when it came out it did not seem like it was embraced by either critics or theater goers.

It seems like the proportion of "off-colour" and just plain nasty topics in after Hours is particularly high today. I thought HTF's "real name" policy was supposed to discourage that kind of thing...

Sick sick sick I tells ya! Sorry guys, I had to mention it here, it's what it's all about innit? I rarely visit After Hours and when I do I'm confronted with a thread like that. I thought it was just a simple warning about shaving your rear end... okay I'll stop, here's Keira Knightley, Oscar nominated for Pride & Prejudice

Classic smiley Joe, we were using it all the time in the old days, so much so that people started complaining about it, apparently it's constant use was making a few members nauseous.

Well that makes me feel a little better Haggai. I was wondering why my spam folder was filling up so fast, I don't get much gmail junk, Hotmail is the spam magnet.

An article, which I believe appeared in a newspaper, asked why,
since you are in effect the mayor of Chicago,
you're not simply being appointed to that position.
Well, it's touching. Like a lot of things in life,
we laugh because it's funny, and we laugh because it's true.
Some people say, reformers here say, "Put that man in jail. What does he think he's doing?"
What I hope I'm doing, and here's where your paper's got a point, is
I'm responding to the will of the people. People are gonna drink.
You know that. I know that. We all know that. All I do is act on that.
There is violence in Chicago, but not by me and not by anybody I employ.
You know why? Because it's not good business.

Whoa! Don't let Jack Briggs see that thread, it's his 2nd or 3rd favorite film. First time I saw Zardoz, on video in the 80's, my feelings were much like theirs, I thought I had sat thru the worst movie in history, 2 hours of my life I'd never get back, forget Plan 9 From Outer Space, this was the one to beat! But thanks to endless shots of Sean Connery as Zed appearing in testy I gave it another shot last year, my reaction wasn't quite as extreme, still an awful film IMO but it has a certain entertainment value.
